Tiger Shark!

It won't do any good to run for your life, you have to swim for your life and even then you can't out swim that awesome shark with the dark stripes running across its powerful back!

The tiger shark is a beautiful animal, brownish grey in their adulthood with dark stripes and spots across its back and upper sides. The stripes and spots fade away as their life span of 30 to 40 years go by. They have a nomadic and solitary life and they may swim up to 50 miles a day in search of food.

What do they eat?   They will eat animal or vegetable food, live or dead. It's surprising what has been found in the stomachs of these animals. A partial list is fish, squid, turtles, seals, sharks, gasoline cans, crabs, shoes, dogs, and human body parts. It makes you think it is not wise to lie around in the water soaking up the sun. Lucky for the tan worshipers, the tiger shark tends to like deep water to gather its belly filling meal. It may find a smaller shark to antagonize and eat while cruising through a new territory.

Full grown tiger sharks average 10-16 feet with an average weight of 2,200 pounds. Some have reached 23 feet in length with a weight of (I really don't know, but it must be a super big chunk of shark)!   They have no commercial value, so don't keep them to show off your kill. Take a picture and let them go. While gazing at the your big tiger shark, see if there any remoras hitching a ride on its belly.

Warning!   The tiger shark has recurved serrated teeth that can slice through bone and flesh. Do not pet or touch them as they are unpredictable and really could care less if you are an octopus, a tin can, or a duck. If you look like gourmet food, it's only a small gulp to their huge stomach.

The worst part about tiger sharks is I have yet to see one smile as it approaches you!

Incidently, the young when born from a brood of 10 to 80, are 18-19 inches long and are fully armed with a set of teeth that can be dangerous. They immediately start hunting just as the adults do, and start their solitary nomadic search for food. Of course, as the males reach maturity, if a lady tiger shark is nearby and the time is right, they won't resist the temptation to let loose with a little extra curricular activity.
