Where to use sinkers!
The pyramid sinker, because of its shape, is best used in sandy areas. It also provides anchor characteristics for holding on mucky, light gravel, or soft clay bottoms. Rocky areas will snag the sinker.
Bank sinkers are usually used for bottom fishing. They are used with the sinker at the bottom of the rig, and a couple of leaders with hooks suspended horizontally above it. This rigging moves over smooth bottoms without snagging, or you can ‘still fish' with the hooks suspended.

Ball sinkers are used to get your bait down to the bottom, resting on the bottom with the bait attached to a three way swivel. Ball weights range up to two pounds.

Egg sinkers are very versatile, because they come in many sizes, but the most effective use is in deep water fishing. To get the bait down fast, you must select the sinker size for the depth of the water, and the type of fish to be caught.
