Hookups when using live bait with tough body parts!
     Live mullet and other bait fish are frisky and active. During their normal activities, they move in all directions and at different speeds. Therefore, your bait is supposed to imitate their natural action even though hooked to your line.

    By experimenting with the bait and hook, you will find it desirable to hook the bait through the back, near the tail, to encourage the bait to swim downward. Should you want it to swim near the surface, place the hook thru the back and close to the head.

When drift fishing, place the hook through the back to allow the bait to swim naturally. Incidently, by hooking through the back it seems to allow the fish to get hooked on the initial hit. Also, to urge the bait to swim deeper, place the hook behind the anal fin on the bottom of the bait.
