Bridge gaff!
The answer to the problem of catching a large fish from a bridge and landing that fish is very simple. Bridge anglers use a large gang hook, and the size is determined by the size of fish caught. The bridge gaff is a large gang hook that has a chunk of metal molded around the hook shanks.

The gaff is tied to a heavy piece of line long enough to reach the water. After the fish has been subdued, a shower curtain ring is snapped around the gaff line and the fishing line.

The gaff line is then released to slide down the fishing line to the head of the fish. There may be some difficulty in arranging the hook at the head-end of your catch. When it looks like all is in position, pull up sharply on the gaff and hook the head of the fish. From then on, it's all a matter of hand-lining the fish to the top.
